Path of Exile Item Upgrades Upgrades to items are a frequent and crucial method to enhance the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a fantastic source of additional damage or more AD or even more attaches. Rare-grade equipment is often superior to modernized Common or Magic gear because of their high requirements. For example, some upgrades give the armor a certain number of health points while others will make it stronger and lighter. The name of the armor upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade the item can be given, as illustrated below. Some of the upgrades also require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, which are shown by the “Magic” and “Hybrids” entries in the table. Certain upgrades also require fees for use. Players should also upgrade the weapons their squadmates use to boost their strength. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to increase its utility when paired with experts in biotics like Grunt and Tali. Jewels Jewels are placed in the armor's sockets and weapons, enhancing a stat and providing secondary effects. They can be made through the process of jewelry crafting, which is where you combine a gem with various chemicals at a table. The higher the grade of the jewel the better the secondary effect. These reagents can be obtained around the world through Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and sometimes by salvaging Legendary gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms. The Jeweler can improve the quality of gemstones in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Based on upgrade item of the gem, it will provide a different stat boosts when inserted into gear, weapons and jewelry. All levels of jewels can be crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a high enough level to qualify for the privilege of having them. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped by a different jewel of the same type without damaging it. You can only replace the gem once in an item of equipment. It is typical to use more jewels for aesthetic reasons. Apart from improving performance, the jewels also create an area that is stronger than metal, so repeated friction from pivots won't cause harm as easily. In addition to the above upgrades, the player can also acquire glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These are a small perk and are able to be swapped easily but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold and Scattered Crystal. Glyphs may also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components like traits or aegis cannot be exchanged and can only be found through an upgrade extractor, or salvaging with Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage. Trinkets Trinkets can be used to provide your hero with various small, but valuable, benefits. They are available in the start-up area as loot or as personal story rewards. They are also available through vendors and after completing road interaction. They can also be crafted by jewelers and later found or purchased from the Trading Post. The first trinket that a player will unlock is the cloak. It provides a tiny, but useful bonus in speed of movement and the ability to escape. The player can then collect necklaces, amulets, and rings, in a similar way similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Every piece of equipment has an upgrade slot that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be used in any type of equipment, while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded, and only works with specific types of trinkets. These trinkets can provide additional bonuses and abilities that are active when the hero isn't in combat. This enables the hero to be more effective when not active and also helps make up for a lack of a solid team or any slots from the talent tree that normally are filled with the hero's ideal stats. As a general rule, trinket upgrades should prioritize BiS (Best in Slot) items you won't replace in the near future. Next, any items with desirable stats that aren't as significant as the iLevel for the item that is to be upgraded. This is especially true when you're looking to upgrade several stats on an item. It is more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat instead of two subpar ones. Jungle players often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red one prior to the beginning of the game. Top and mid players, on the other hand they will select a pink or green ward, based on the matchup. These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's abilities to control maps. In addition to the items listed above, players can also discover other trinkets in form trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be earned by completing certain milestones within the story, for instance finishing a chapter's main quest or destroying a boss.
