World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as crit chance and PvE damage. For instance, a weapon with the upgrade template that ends in % will take on 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value). Item upgrading costs crests and the item's current level. The cost increases as the item's level increases. Components Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons in order to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades also come with specific cosmetic effects. Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be applied. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and Ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns. There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of an Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools, and through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the numerous Glyphs and there are some rare glyphs that can be found as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts. Once you have the desired Glyphs, you will need to place them on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that can boost a particular set of stat nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph, this will either be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats. The use of the Glyph will boost all the nodes that are linked to it, and you should try to place your Glyphs near the most important nodes of the Graph to maximise the impact. For example an Druid should try to place their Glyphs near their primary damage nodes but also consider placing them near critical damage nodes, too. Leveling The upgrade system for items allows players to boost the stats of specific items by adding upgraded components. This is referred to as “upping”. Every upgradeable item has a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items are able to be leveled up to a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level. Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab of the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used for leveling up an item. When enough points have been earned you will be able to claim your upgrade and get its extra bonuses. When an item is upgraded by a player to a higher level, the original item is replaced with a new item of the same type. The same armor can be transformed into the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item comes with its own set bonus. This can be a downside, as the item can become more expensive even if you do not require it. The upgrades to items can be rerolled, provided that the player has enough reroll tokens to do this. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it has a level 1 basis and completely different bonuses. This can be useful for certain items, but it shouldn't be repeated often, as it can waste many resources. Certain upgrades can be rerolled several times which increases their value and allowing the player to customize their gear. An excellent example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an increase in power when a player is repeatedly in and out of the water (or is able to swim like dolphins). The item can be upgraded several times by increasing the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is extremely valuable in PvP, as a perfectly rolled version of it can be worth between 20 and 50 times its value without being upgraded. Requirements The ability to upgrade items allows players to increase the level of their available equipment – weapons, armor, and trinkets above ilvl 385—by presenting the appropriate items and currency to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces improve the strength of their base defense, while upgrades to weapon items boost their base damage as well as the required strength and dexterity. All items are upgradeable up to five times, with the exception for hero equipment, which is able to be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade an object, it is at risk of failing. The probability of failure increases as you go over the maximum number. Failures can cause the item to go to its initial condition, which requires the user to pay more for materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the maximum amount of upgrades. If an item is not upgraded, the experience bar in its growth bar will reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it gained, such as chances to be crit attack damage, additional effects (such as increased heal over time, or reloading speed). The player is able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure. If an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that if a weapon receives a crit chance boost that it will be applied prior to any attack damage increases. A new attribute called Slots has been added to the item definition and the value is recomputed each time an upgrade is made. The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is determined on the rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots.
